Soundlabs Festival: Indie-Pop & Dolce Vita.

Soundlabs Festival returns to its traditional summer slot in Roseto degli Abruzzi this year,
after taking place in September last year. Our beginnings lie in the distant past.
What started in 1997 as a “little festival” with free entry—a showcase for emerging local
and Italian bands with the evocative name Suoni dal Sottosuolo,
(sounds from the underground) — evolved into the Soundlabs Festival in 2003,
following the dream of finding its place on an international market.
Patti Smith, Mogwai, Blonde Redhead, Calexico, José Gonzalez, Glasvegas, Wire, Liars,
Micah P. Hinson, Art Brut, Girls in Hawaii, Enon, Afterhours, Verdena, Baustelle, Zu, Linea 77,
Marlene Kuntz, Giardini di Miro', Offlaga Disco Pax,
are just a few of the more than 100 names
that have taken part in this unique and magical festival over the course of the last 13 years.

The 2010 Soundlabs Festival—the fourteenth edition—marks the pinnacle of this development,
hosting SIMPLE MINDS, one of the most memorable and defining bands of the eighties and who
are still bringing out new music along with intense and compelling live performances. In addition, many other international bands will appear on August 1 and 2 at the usual venue,
the Stadio Fonte dell'Olmo in Roseto degli Abruzzi, alternating between two stages.
Soundlabs welcomes back two of the highlights of 2009: the fresh and infectious pop of the English
trio THE WAVE PICTURES and the driving noise of the home-grown but very international ZU.
And once again, Soundlabs brings diverse and innovative new bands to the stage:
the bizarre ethno-dance-folk of A HAWK AND A HACKSAW; the nostalgic sounds of the
Livornian VIRGINIANA MILLER; the refined and beautiful dream pop of WILD NOTHING;
the gritty garage pop of the gorgeous Los Angeles DUM DUM GIRLS; the sixties psychedelia
of the Californian SLEEPY SUN; the lighthearted but incendiary Catalan MUJERES; the lovely
and lyrical Brooklyn AIR WAVES, Italian singer-songwriter BRUNORI SaS and the composite
rock of our own Pescaran MATINEE.

As always, this is a date that is not to be missed. Now in its fourteenth year, Soundlabs continues
to be driven by its founding ambition to bring innovative music and a great festival experience to
an audience that becomes more diverse and international every year. Over the last fourteen years,
the festival has been growing, and it’s clear why: set against the backdrop of the gorgeous Adriatic
coast, Soundlabs offers days filled with the pleasures of the seaside and the region’s exquisite
foods and wines, and nights filled with the exceptional music that has made Soundlabs legendary.
Added to these ingredients is the priceless support of countless volunteers and businesses that
are at the forefront in their sectors, such as Flyonair, Tipolitografia Rosetana, and Roseto Music
Service—essential components in the organization of the event. Added to this is a renewed
appreciation on the part of the municipal administration for an event that carries the name
of Roseto degli Abruzzi far beyond the confines of the region, beyond Italy and to an
international audience.
